GT Popping
The reef edges around Machchafushi hold serious Giant Trevally. We cast heavy poppers on the drop-offs where the reef meets deep water. 20kg+ fish exploding on the surface. This is the most exciting fishing trip we run and it's right on your doorstep.
Big Game Trolling
December through April is peak season. We troll the deep water beyond the atoll edge for Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, and Mahi Mahi. The drop-off is close to Centara Grand, so we're in the trolling zone within 20 minutes.
Night Fishing
Perfect for families - and Centara Grand is a family resort. We head out after sunset, anchor over the reef, and drop lines for Red Snapper, Grouper, and Emperor. Relaxed, fun, and the kids can do it. We prepare fresh sashimi from your catch on the boat.
Deep Jigging
For serious anglers. Heavy jigs dropped to 100m+ on the steep drop-offs. Dogtooth Tuna, Ruby Snapper, Amberjack. The deep structure around Machchafushi is excellent for jigging.

When to Fish from Centara Grand
December to April (NE monsoon): Peak season. Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo. Calmer seas, better visibility. Best months for big game trolling.
May to November (SW monsoon): GT popping is actually better during this season. The rougher water pushes baitfish onto the reef edges and the GTs go into a feeding frenzy. Deep jigging is productive year round.
Night fishing works every month of the year.
What to Bring
Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a light long sleeve shirt. We provide everything else. Rods, reels, lures, poppers, jigs, terminal tackle, drinks, and snacks. Just show up.
Combo Trips
A lot of Centara Grand guests combine trips. Morning GT popping, afternoon on a sandbank. Or a full day offshore followed by night fishing the same evening. We can build a custom itinerary if you're staying multiple days. Multi-day trips get a reduced daily rate.
