Why Fish with Us from Vilamendhoo
Vilamendhoo is one of the best dive resorts in South Ari Atoll. If you've spent your mornings on the house reef swimming with reef sharks and turtles, imagine what it's like to hook into a 30kg Giant Trevally or fight a Yellowfin Tuna in open water.
We pick you up directly from the Vilamendhoo jetty. About 25 minutes by boat puts you on the fishing grounds - the same reef edges and deep channels you've been diving, but from a completely different perspective.
Every trip is private. Your group, your boat, your crew. Premium Shimano and Daiwa tackle, a captain who fishes these waters every single day, and a trip designed around what you want to catch.
What Vilamendhoo Guests Usually Book
Night Fishing
The most popular trip for Vilamendhoo guests. After a day of diving, head out after sunset, anchor over the reef, and drop lines for Red Snapper, Grouper, and Emperor. Relaxed, social, and everyone catches fish. The crew prepares fresh sashimi from your catch on the boat.
GT Popping
You've seen GTs patrolling the reef while snorkelling. Now cast heavy poppers at them and watch them explode on the surface. We fish the outer reef edges where 20kg+ fish hunt. The most exciting fishing in the Maldives.
Big Game Trolling
December through April is peak season. Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, and Mahi Mahi in the deep water beyond the atoll edge. We troll on the 38ft cruiser with heavy tackle. If you want a trophy catch, this is the trip.
Deep Jigging
For the divers who want to take it up a notch. Heavy jigs dropped to 100m+ on the steep drop-offs. Dogtooth Tuna, Ruby Snapper, Amberjack. Hard-fighting fish from deep water - the kind of species you've been spotting on deep dives.

When to Fish from Vilamendhoo
December to April (NE monsoon): Peak season for big game. Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo. Calmer seas, better visibility. The best months if you want a shot at billfish.
May to November (SW monsoon): GT popping is better during this season. Rougher water pushes baitfish onto the reef edges and the GTs feed aggressively. Deep jigging is productive year round.
Night fishing works every month of the year - perfect for any visit.
What to Bring
Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a light long sleeve shirt. We provide everything else. Rods, reels, lures, poppers, jigs, terminal tackle, drinks, and snacks. Just show up.
Dive and Fish Combos
Vilamendhoo guests love combining morning dives with afternoon or evening fishing. A morning on the house reef followed by a sunset GT popping session. Or a full day offshore followed by night fishing the same evening. We can build a custom itinerary if you're staying multiple days. Multi-day trips get a reduced daily rate.
Vilamendhoo has some of the best diving in South Ari Atoll. Our fishing grounds overlap with many of the same reef systems you dive on. If you've been watching GTs and Dogtooth Tuna while diving, now you can target them on rod and reel. Book directly on WhatsApp for the best rate.
