Fishing from LUX

LUX* South Ari Atoll sits on Dhidhoofinolhu, one of the longest islands in the atoll. The fishing around here is excellent, and the transfer from the resort jetty is one of the shortest we do. You're on the water and fishing in about 10 minutes.

We pick up directly from the LUX jetty. No third party transfers, no waiting around. Our captain pulls up at the agreed time and you're off.

All our trips from LUX are private charters. Your boat, your crew, your pace. Whether you're a family looking for a fun evening or a group of mates who want to chase GTs all day.

What LUX Guests Book the Most

Night Fishing

By far the most popular trip from LUX. Guests head out after sunset, the crew anchors over a productive reef, and everyone drops lines for Red Snapper, Grouper, and Emperor. The crew makes sashimi on the spot. It's relaxed and fun. Kids love it. Couples love it. It works for everyone and you're back at the resort by 9pm.

GT Popping

What the serious anglers come for. The reef edges near Dhidhoofinolhu hold big Giant Trevally, especially on the outgoing tide. Half day trips are perfect if you want a morning session and then still have the afternoon at the resort. Full day trips let us run further and hit more spots.

Island Hopping + Fishing

The trip that gets the best reactions from LUX guests. We split the day between fishing and exploring. Hit a sandbank, snorkel a reef, catch some fish, eat sashimi on an uninhabited island. It's the full Maldives day and it works brilliantly for mixed groups where not everyone is a hardcore angler.

Big Game Trolling

December through April. Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo. We troll the deep channels south of the atoll. LUX's position gives us quick access to the open ocean.

Captain's Choice

One we recommend a lot to LUX guests who aren't sure what they want. Our captain reads the conditions that morning and picks the best fishing. Could be popping, jigging, trolling, or a mix. You get the best of whatever is happening that day.

Best Trips for Families at LUX

LUX is a big family resort, so we get this question a lot.

Night Fishing is the number one pick. It's only 3 hours, it's calm, the kids can reel in fish themselves, and the crew makes it fun. Most families book this on their first or second evening.

Reef Fishing in the morning is another great option. Light tackle, easy fishing, plenty of bites to keep everyone interested. 4 hours and you're done before lunch.

Island Hopping + Fishing works if your kids are comfortable in the water. Fishing in the morning, sandbank and snorkeling in the afternoon. Pack the day with variety so nobody gets bored.

When to Fish from LUX

December to April: Calmer seas, big pelagics on the move. Best for big game trolling and yellowfin tuna.

May to November: GT popping and reef fishing are excellent. The monsoon stirs up the food chain and the predators feed aggressively on the reef edges.

Night fishing and reef fishing are consistent all year.

Combo Days

A lot of LUX guests book a combo. Morning GT popping, back to the resort for lunch and pool time, then night fishing after sunset. Or a full day island hopping trip one day and a dedicated fishing day the next.

If you're staying 5 or more nights, talk to us about a multi-day package. We'll build a custom itinerary and the daily rate comes down.

We work with LUX regularly. The activities team can point you our way. But you'll always get the fastest reply and best price messaging us directly on WhatsApp.

Questions About Fishing from LUX

About 10 minutes from the jetty to the fishing grounds. It's one of the closest pickups we do.

It's the best trip for kids. Simple fishing, lots of bites, and the crew handles everything. Most kids catch multiple fish. We've had 6 year olds reel in snapper bigger than their arm.

Yes. The Island Hopping + Fishing trip does exactly this. Half the day fishing, half exploring sandbanks and snorkel spots. Works great for groups where some people fish and some just want to swim.

You keep it. The crew cleans and fillets everything. We prepare sashimi on the boat if you want, or you can take the fillets back to the resort.

Sometimes, if we have availability. But we'd recommend booking at least a day or two ahead, especially from December to April when we're busiest.

Yes. We can pick up as early as 6am for dawn sessions. Some of the best GT fishing happens in the first two hours of light.
