The Problem With Fishing Solo
Our charters are priced per boat - and per boat is brilliant for groups. A group splitting the 28ft vessel pays a fraction each for a half day with everything included. But if you're travelling solo or as a couple, the same boat costs you the whole $800. That maths has kept a lot of good anglers on the beach.
The community fixes it. Maldives Fishing - Shared Trips 🎣 is our WhatsApp group where solo anglers and small groups find each other, align on dates, and split a private charter like a full crew would.
How It Works
What a Seat Costs
Group trips run with a maximum of 4 anglers per boat, so everyone has room to fish. The boat price divides by whoever joins - here is the full-boat split:
Maximum 4 anglers per boat on group trips. Fewer anglers means a bigger share each. All prices final, everything included, resort and guesthouse pickup across South Ari Atoll.
Who This Is For
Solo travellers on a surf, dive, or whale shark trip who want a fishing day without paying for five. Couples where one fishes and one doesn't. Guesthouse travellers on Dhigurah and Maamigili watching charters leave without them. Anglers who simply like fishing with other anglers - some of the best days on our boats are strangers at 7am and a crew by noon.
Good to know: nobody is ever charged for a trip that doesn't fill - dates just move until they work. And if you'd rather not wait for a group, the boat is always available privately at the normal per-boat rates.
Shared Trip Questions
Join the WhatsApp community, then either claim a seat on a trip that's already forming or post your own dates and trip type. Once enough anglers align on a date, we confirm the boat and everyone splits the cost.
Group trips run with a maximum of 4 anglers per boat. A $800 half-day on the 28ft split four ways is $200 each; a full day at $1,500 is $375 each. Everything is included - gear, crew, drinks, snacks, pickup.
The trip simply moves - we suggest nearby dates where others are available, or you can take the boat privately at the normal per-boat rate. Nobody is ever charged for a trip that doesn't run.
This is exactly who the community is for. Solo anglers and couples are the majority of members - the whole point is that nobody should skip fishing the Maldives because a private boat is too much alone.
No - shared trips include everything a private charter does: Shimano and Daiwa tackle, lures, drinks, snacks, and resort or guesthouse pickup across South Ari Atoll. That said, you're very welcome to bring your own gear if you prefer fishing your own setup.
The split is arranged in the group once the trip is confirmed, and settled directly with us. All prices are final - no service charges or hidden fees, same as every Spear Maldives trip.
